Events before and after

A event that happened before the Battle of Hattin was in 700 A.D when Saxons made concrete mixers. In 1200 A.D., there was the fourth crusade. Many crusades continued after the crusade in 1200 A.D.

Who was King Guy

King Guy was the king of Jerusalem. He was born in 1129 and he died in 1194. He was in the battle with Saladin and he was captured. He was actually set free when he ceded a port in Palestine. He died a year after the Battle of Hattin. When he was in battle, he was poorly advised. He was greatly outnumbered. King Guy went through a lot to keep Jerusalem his. He battled with Saladin numerous times and he never gave up even when he came close to death.

Interesting facts

When they made their way to the Horns of Hattin, it jutted out about 100 feet above them. Here, they still did not find any water, just like when they were at the place they camped at. Many of the men were afraid and so they would pray. That night, many of the men couldn't sleep because they needed water that badly. The Muslims, in an act of torcher, set the hill on fire where the Christians were. He captured them and he sold many of the common soldiers for slavery. Many of the men were killed. The men he killed did not complain as they were being killed. Since a guy was mad at him, he defamed Saladin. In anger, Saladin chopped off his arm with his sword. That is why i picked this, it has a lot of twists and turns.

Why i chose this

I chose this topic because it was very interesting to me. It talks about how Saladin wanted revenge for his sisters death. It talks about his struggle for getting back the city of Jerusalem. This war had a great impact on the history of the crusaders. One of the many reasons that King Guy was not very popular was because he attacked shephards who had helped the Christians. It amazed me how they could just destroy all of the tribes that they could and it didn't even bother them in the slightest. I found it interesting because it is just this constant battle between Christian people and the Muslim people. Neither of them really rest and they don't give up. It was one of the bloodiest battles and is also known as the Horns of Hattin. It is called that because it took place on top of two rocky peaks.

When and what

This was in July 4, 1187 A.D. It was a war that Saladin had an army of about 20,000 men. It was a battle in northern Palestine. It marked the deafeat of the christian armies by the muslim named Saladin. The crusaders were camped about 20 miles from the sea of Galilee. It was hard for many of the fighters because they ran out of water. About 15,00 crusaders left to go to the relief of the city. Many of them left and turned back to where they came from. Most of the crusaders were slaughtered but Saladin spared the lives of most Christian lords and King Guy. A day after the battle, he started his campaign to take back the city of Jerusalem.

How it started

Christian forces from the kingdom of Jerusalem attack a caravan carrying the sister of Saladin. His sister was killed. This angered him very much and he wanted revenge. This being so, he started a holy war against Crusaders. He defeated a christian army and led sige to Jerusalem and he captured it. After the conquest, he did not sack the city. He was unsuccessful and trying to attack Jerusalem. Saladin would make his men gather all that they could that would burn. He did that so that they could build a fire around the christians. The fire served as a sort of barrier around the christians so that they could not escape.
